Seatbelt Safety Brief

Why tell me how to do this - how difficult is it really? Even more annoying when they give the seatbelt safety brief on a flight I already have my belt done up, the flight crew have probably already checked through the cabin.

People aren’t watching.

They have seen it all before.

The flight crew feel embarrassed.

So WHY bother?

In an emergency people panic. Adrenaline floods their system. They go it fight or flight mode. Probably flight - the desperate need to escape the plane. When we feel like this we default to our learned behaviour, the most familiar, the seatbelt of our car - we search for the button, a button that isn’t there and we panic more.

In drills aircraft company’s have found that without the brief reminding us of the seatbelt functioning it takes up to 90 secs longer to evacuate a plane.

90 seconds that can mean life or death.

The seatbelt safety brief may just save my life.
